Prime Minister give statement on World Teachers’ Day

On World Teachers’ Day, the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, made the following statement:

“On this day, World Teachers’ Day, we recognise and value the great contribution that educators and teachers make to creating better communities.

I’m kicking off the nomination season for the 2023 Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching, Teaching Excellence in STEM, and Early Childhood Education today.

Outstanding elementary, secondary, and early childhood educators are recognised with these honours. I urge Canadians to nominate excellent educators who have had a significant positive impact on their neighbourhood for these honours.

The theme for this year, ‘The transformation of education begins with teachers,’ serves as a reminder that teachers and educators should have access to professional development opportunities, work in a supportive environment, and be given the freedom to be innovative and creative in order to ensure the success of their students.

“Educators help the next generation acquire the information and skills necessary to handle our rapidly changing environment, succeed in the future economy, and combat difficulties. Teachers go above and beyond the requirements of their fundamental positions. They act as role models, defenders, and counsellors for their students on any given day. Teachers serve as mentors who encourage students of all ages to give their all while learning and developing as people.

The Canadian government positions keeps up its serious efforts to provide teachers and educators with the resources they require and the ability to do their jobs in a secure atmosphere.

As part of the Safe Return to Class Fund, we provided an additional $100 million to the provinces and territories in July, adding to our prior $2 billion contribution. Together, these funds are enabling the procurement of personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies, and modifications to the air ventilation in learning areas.

Beyond our borders, the Canadian government collaborates with international partners and education ministries from all over the world to guarantee that every classroom has a qualified, enthusiastic, and well-supported teacher who can unleash students’ learning potential, even in emergency situations.
