Will Schoellkopf, author of “The Bitcoin Dog” and soon-to-be father, has written an opinion piece.

When I first heard about bitcoin market in 2013, I was a UCLA computer science student. Skeptical of this new magical internet money, it wasn’t long until the Mt. Gox exchange meltdown confirmed that pessimism, demonstrating how crucial it is to keep your bitcoin in your own hands. However, at the time, easy-to-use cold storage hardware wallet solutions were not yet available, so I made the error of abandoning up, concluding that learning more about Bitcoin was not worth the effort.

I was mistaken.

Even though you have yet to be born, your love has already warmed my heart. I can already see myself holding you in my arms as I think about this next Parent’s Day, my first as a soon-to-be father. I push your nose with my nose while I rock you side to side, swaddled in a pretty little onesie and a floppy-eared cap.

“Can you tell me who daddy’s girl is?”” I speak in hushed tones into your ear. “”You’re the one!” My pride fills my eyes. When you, to my surprise, strain to reach out and grip my nose, a smile spreads across my face! Your teeny-tiny fingers can’t seem to get a hold of it.

Today, as I sit in our rocking rocker, the one we’ll rock back and forth in with you in my arms, I glance out your nursery window and think about the world I want to bring you into: a world where cold storage hardware wallet solutions are widely available. I’m thinking about the objectives you’ll set for yourself, your hopes, and your ambitions! But I don’t want you to have everything – at least not easily. I want the best for you, but I’m not going to hand it over to you on a silver platter.

I will raise you to be a young woman who works hard for what she desires as your father. I want you to be in charge of your own destiny. To be given the chance to succeed. To create a route that is so exciting, thrilling, and “I can’t believe this is actually happening” that you joyfully offer your passions your blood, sweat, and tears without blinking. However, you currently lack the financial means to do so.

While I sincerely wish you could be born free, inflation has kept your job options limited (as it has for most young men and women in our society).

I’m afraid that knowing your net income is hampered by rising inflation will force you to purposely restrict yourself — and, as a result, you’ll limit your own potential to grow your creativity by rejecting forms of self-expression that represent your inner spirit’s fire. You may feel compelled to swap your enthusiasm for ruthlessness, to surrender your life goal for the life of a beast of burden — one who needs to let out a powerful roar to break free from inflation’s prison!

This is remedied with Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is the key that allows you to gently unlock the door and stroll out of the cage in peace. While your piggy bank’s pennies will never be able to withstand inflation, you will be able to stockpile sats, which cannot be inflated away. You’ll be able to live the life you desire, whatever that life may be, while also saving for the future.
You are your own person, my lovely daughter. You have the option of fluttering like a butterfly or stinging like a bee. Your wings will be facing a headwind of inflation if you live on a fiat standard, which is a unit of account managed by a central bank with a money supply artificially inflated as desired.

However, if you want to use the Bitcoin standard, you will be able to travel for free. You may select the vocation that best suits you and your lifestyle thanks to Bitcoin, knowing that you are now equipped with a savings system capable of preserving the value of your labour over time.

I’m sure you’ll have the same critical thinking abilities as your father because you’re my daughter. (Though, to be honest, I hope you take like your mother in this regard; she is the family’s true critical thinker!) You instinctively know not to believe me blindly and to independently check my Bitcoin assertions.

It took another eight years for me to lean in for another look — this time more than a superficial one — and only then did I realise what Bitcoin truly is: a once-in-a-civilization monetary revolution.

“However, if Daddy is so strong, why can’t he merely modify bitcoin’s supply?” you may be wondering.
This is my response, my daughter: Don’t simply listen to me; do your own study and follow Bitcoin’s ideas. There is so much to learn about Bitcoin! Find out why, after you’re a little older…not 18, but 118…no more bitcoin will be made! Everything that exists in the world is all that will ever exist. Just keep in mind, my daughter, that if you do decide to use Bitcoin, there is a risk involved.
