Stephen Curry leads the Golden State Warriors to victory against the Dallas Mavericks in their season opener. Stephen Curry led the Golden State Warriors with 21 points in their Western Conference finals opener against the Dallas Mavericks, 112-87.

Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks was limited to 20 points, his lowest postseason total.

Curry, who also grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds, added, “We accomplished what we were expected to do – protect home court, win the first game.”

“We came in with a detailed game plan, which we mostly followed.”

Andrew Wiggins led the Warriors with 19 points and was instrumental in reducing Doncic’s influence.

“‘Wiggs’ was incredible. Doncic is one of the toughest players to cover in the NBA “Warriors coach Steve Kerr stated.

“We just asked Wiggs to track him down, stay in front of him, and apply pressure. He performed an outstanding job.”

Doncic scored 29 points per game in the playoff series against the Utah Jazz and 32.6 points per game in the semi-final series against the Phoenix Suns.

The Warriors, according to Doncic, “did a fantastic job.”

“Of sure, we could improve things. Throughout the first quarter, we received a lot of encouraging comments. Also in the second quarter. The second half, though, was different.”

The Warriors will return to San Francisco on Friday (02:00 BST Saturday) to host the second game of the best-of-seven series.

The Miami Heat are up 1-0 in the Eastern Conference final against the Boston Celtics. Thus, they will play their second game on Thursday (01:30 BST Friday).
