Sonic Origins will be released in June, and it will include remasters of four classic Sonic games. Sega has officially announced the information behind Sonic Origins, a remastered collection of Sonic The Hedgehog 1, 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, in the run-up to Sonic’s 31st birthday (feeling old yet?). However, don’t anticipate pure porting of these Sega oldies. Sonic Origins contains additional achievements, collectibles, animated shorts, and game modes, as well as enhanced graphics updated for today’s systems, giving these ancient favourites a new lease on life.
Players in Sonic Origins will be able to pick between classic and anniversary modes. Players will be able to play the games in their original splendour and aspect ratios in vintage mode. Anniversary mode provides a full-screen experience as well as endless lives, so you won’t have to worry about running out of lives.
Throughout all four games in the Sonic Origins series, you can play as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles, giving you the chance to battle Metal Sonic as Knuckles or glide around Green Hill Zone as Tails. Sonic CD hasn’t been properly re-released since 2011, despite Sega’s several bundles of the original three Sonic games. There’s no news yet on whether this version of the game will have the US or (much superior) Japanese music. Make your own decision.
You may preorder the game here, but Sega appears to have gone out of their way to make the procedure as difficult as possible. Sega, we’ve demonstrated that we’ll open our wallets for everything, so don’t make this any more difficult than it has to be.
While we won’t see gameplay for Sonic Frontiers for a while, Sonic Origins is well suited to keep fans occupied till then.
On June 23rd, Sonic will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
