Jenna Ortega Makes Addams Family Debut in Tim Burton Netflix Series ‘Wednesday’ Teaser Ortega (YOU, Jane the Virgin) is as miserable as they come in a new trailer published on Monday, previewing Tim Burton’s warped take on the popular property.
Wednesday is a “sleuthing, supernaturally tinged mystery” that follows a death-obsessed girl through her years at the strange Nevermore Academy. According to the official synopsis, the eight-episode series will follow Wednesday as she tries to “master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that engulfed her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships with the strange and diverse student body.”
Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in The Addams Family and its sequel Addams Family Values, will return to the franchise in a role on the programmed that has yet to be announced.
Morticia Addams will be played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, while Gomez will be played by Luis Guzmán. Pugsley is played by Isaac Ordonez, Thing is played by Victor Dorobantu, Lurch is played by George Burcea, and Larissa Weems, the principal of Nevermore Academy, is played by Gwendoline Christie, who played Morticia in Game of Thrones.
Al Gough and Miles Millar, creators of Smallville, will write Wednesday and act as showrunners and executive producers. Along with Kayla Alpert, Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, and Jonathan Glickman, Burton will direct and executive produce the film.
