The Great Season 2 reimagines Russian history in the most devilishly entertaining way conceivable. The second season follows a pregnant Catherine (Elle Fanning) as she eventually ascends to the throne of Russia, managing the stress of heartbreak, the chaotic Russian court, and her wacky (still alive) husband Peter (Nicholas Hoult). By the conclusion of the season, the two mismatched monarchs have fallen in love, but that doesn’t mean The Great Season 2 has a happy ending. In reality, The Great Season 2 concludes on a tragic, bittersweet, and dramatic note. But is that all there is to it?
The Great on Hulu depicts the emergence of Catherine the Great, a real-life 18th-century ruler, without regard for historical accuracy. With the support of her military man boyfriend Grigory Orlov (who is NOT a character on the programme), the real Catherine mercilessly took over Russia, and the real Peter died under unknown circumstances not long after. (Yeah, she probably murdered him.) Catherine, on the other hand, is always weighing her morals against her goals and is continually battling to kill off Peter, who is played by Nicholas Hoult with cat-like erratic joy. it is one of the most innovative historical plays because it trades historical truth for pure entertainment.
So, what happens after that? Will Hulu offer us The Great Season 3 since we can’t rely on history to tell us where it goes after its electrifying Season 2? Here’s all we know about Season 3

SO CATHERINE AND PETER ARE IN LOVE? THE GREAT SEASON 2 ENDING EXPLAINED EVEN IF HE SLEEPED WITH HER MOTHER? AND THEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO KILL HIM?\
So, The Great Season 2’s finale is a bit of a crazy ride. Catherine grows to love Peter during the course of the season. They appear to be over over heels in love with the birth of their son Paul. That is, until Mariel (Phoebe Fox) informs Catherine that Peter slept with and murdered her mother (Gillian Anderson). While Peter professes innocence in Catherine’s mother’s death, he does admit to sleeping with her.
In the Season 2 conclusion of The Great, Catherine is debating what to do about Peter. He is the one she loves, yet he must die. Not only for revenge, but also to keep her throne. During Mariel’s wedding to an eight-year-old boy, Peter makes a public appeal to Catherine.
In the end, Catherine admits that true love may entail accepting the shortcomings of the other person. She appears to be getting along with Peter, but there is a scheme in the works.
Later, when Catherine stabs Peter in the back, Velementov (Douglas Hodge) captures a couple of the inebriated aristocrats in the court. Catherine is devastated when she discovers what she’s done and hugs Peter’s body. But it isn’t Peter. They embrace as soon as Peter enters. Catherine’s assailant, who she believed she had murdered, rises in anguish. Even as they recognise the greatest risks to each other’s lives, husband and wife hug uncomfortably, recognising they are trapped together.
