For the final episode of Neighbours, Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Donna.
Margot Robbie | It was revealed late last night that Margot Robbie had joined the roster of stars returning to Neighbours for the show’s rapidly approaching previous episode.
The actor’s portrayal of Harley Quinn in the DC Comics blockbuster Suicide Squad, its 2021 sequel, and spin-off Birds of Prey catapulted her to international stardom.
Robbie has also received praise from critics for her roles in movies like The Wolf of Wall Street, I Tonya, and Bombshell; the latter two earned her nominations for Academy Awards.
Meanwhile, she recently made headlines for her role in the upcoming Barbie movie, which is now in production and is being directed by Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Ladybird).
This is to say that Robbie is a significant acquisition for Neighbours, given her busy schedule and A-list standing. Still, her return is a tribute to the show’s undeniable reputation as a career-starter for Australian acting talent.
She portrayed Donna Freedman on the show from 2008 to 2011, beginning as a devoted admirer of musician Ty Harper (Dean Geyer) before developing into a sympathetic and well-liked character in her own right.
Donna was written out of the show on a good note, starting her studies at a New York City-based
Fashion school mirrors Robbie’s decision to leave the drama for employment in Hollywood.
The Tweet
She returned yesterday evening, and the soap tweeted:
“Surprise! Did you believe we were finished?”
The declaration pays homage to the several other cast reunions proposed in recent months, such as those involving Guy Pearce from Iron Man 3 and Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, the show’s first power couple.
Jesse Spencer from House and Chicago Fire, chart-topping singer Delta Goodrem, soap opera stars Kym Valentine, and Carla Bonner were also revealed yesterday night.
Fans will soon find out as the finale is set to debut next week. It is still unclear exactly how the authors aim to bind all these dissimilar people together in one episode.
The final episode of Neighbours will air on Friday, July 29 at 9 p.m. on Channel 5, followed by Neighbours: What Happened Next? At 10:05 p.m. and Neighbours: The Stars’ Greatest Hits at 11:30 p.m. See more of our coverage of soap operas or check out our TV Guide to find out what’s on tonight.
