Notes on the game: Dylan Cease enjoys facing the Detroit Tigers.
In 13 starts against the Tigers, Cease has never lost. When facing the Old English D, his career numbers were 11 wins, 90 strikeouts, 18 walks, and 15 earned runs over 741/3 innings, for an ERA of 1.82.
They’re the pickle, tomato, relish, onions, and celery salt on his hot dog in Chicago words – a complicated metaphor, eh?
That figure isn’t affected by a few overpowering appearances when he was a relative unknown. In 2019, Cease had a 3.38 ERA in 16 innings, a 2.19 ERA in 1213 innings in 2020, and a 1.17 ERA in 23 innings in 2021. It doesn’t exactly bode well for the newest, most-improved version of the Tigers’ offence, given that the lineup has undoubtedly become stronger in each of those three seasons. (Though the Tigers struggled to score early against the White Sox on Friday, they scored all five runs in the final four frames off ChiSox relievers.)

Does it, or does it not? Remember that the Tigers added a slew of new hitters this summer, including Tucker Barnhart, Javier Baez, Austin Meadows, and Spencer Torkelson.
And Baez and Meadows adore going up against Dylan Cease. Cease is the chilli sauce, onions, and mustard on their hot dogs in Detroit.
