THE UNPREDICTABLE VICTORY OF PAKISTAN AGAINST AFGHANISTAN LEAVING THE HOPES OF THE WORLD CUP ALIVE
Pakistan got a shocking victory in their second last group stage of the World Cup 2019 against Afghanistan by three wickets with just two balls on Saturday. The victory has kept the hopes of the team alive to be a part of the World Cup Semifinal.
Pakistan’s today’s win has placed it on the fourth position in the top-10-team list which is above England- the hosts, due to a poor beginning in the tournament.
Pakistan got 228-runs target which was made possible to be chased successfully by the stunning performance of the player of the Green to beat the opponent Afghans.
Imad Wasim- the all-rounder gave a tough time to Gulbadin Naib- the skipper of Afghanistan. He remained not out on 49-runs hitting the boundary on the fourth ball of the last over that fulfilled their target with two balls in spare.
Imad after the victory stated, “When I went in they were bowling brilliantly but I just hung in there.”
He added, “We wanted to bat out the 50 overs and see. Gulbadin (Naib) was the only one who could be targeted. They have world-class spinners so we attacked him. Thank you to the crowd, it feels like home here. They gave us a boost in confidence. Win our next game and we’ll see what happens. Now we believe we can win from anywhere.”
The Caption of Pakistan Sarfraz Ahmed put Pakistan in serious trouble by getting run-out due to an unwanted second run which brought Pakistan at the need of 72-runs off the last eleven overs.
But the team managed to come up in the 48th over by taking 18-runs off Naib bringing the target at a covering level of 28-runs off four overs.
The other players like Shadab got run-out by securing 11 runs of the total 206 and Wahab Riaz remained not-out with 15-runs.
On the other hand Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi put Afghanistan in deep trouble by striking them twice while they were batting first by winning the toss.
While Afghanistan’s batting, Gulbadin Naib 19-year-old dismissed captain made 15-run on the score 27/2 off the fourth ball of the fifth over in the bowling of Hashmatullah. After the match, Naib, the Captain of Afghanistan said, “We fight really well, the boys gave 100 percent but in the end, we missed an opportunity to win the match.”
He further added, “Credit to Pakistan, they controlled their nerves. We missed again. You can face a lot of these situations; we are working harder and harder. The matches we have lost, we have improved.”
The next wicket was taken by the left-arm-spinner Imad Wasim of Rahmat Shah being caught out at 57/3.
These were the two Afghanistan Players; Gulbadin Naib and Rahmat Shah seemed very confident and fearless while they won the match and took the decision to bat on a level but were wrecked by Shaheen Afridi’s twofold strike on the brownish pitch.
At the ending ceremony, Imad Wasim was honored with the title of the “Man of the Match” for his brilliant performance.
